Earl Meek Jr.

Earl Meek Jr., 97, of Louisville, KY, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at his residence.

Mr. Meek was born January 28, 1928, in Huntington, WV, to the late Earl Meek Sr. and Mabel Meade Meek.

In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his loving wife, Josephine “Jo” Deere Meek, and his sister, Maudie Meek Lucas.

Earl was an Engineer for the C&O Railroad and CSX Railroad. He was a WWII Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a member of Flatwoods First Baptist Church in Flatwoods, KY.

Mr. Meek is survived by his two sons, David M. “Mike” Meek and John R. “Randy” Meek both of Louisville, KY; three grandchildren, Carmen (Brian) Scyphers of Georgetown, IN, Corey (William) Hurlston of Louisville, KY, and Taylor (Jaclyn) Meek of Louisville, KY; nine great-grandchildren: Warren Scyphers, Trinton Hurlston, Lilly Scyphers, Boston Hurlston, Simon Scyphers, Calvin Scyphers, Knox Scyphers, Jackson Meek of Louisville, KY and Evelyn “Evie” Meek of Louisville, KY; and a host of extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Flatwoods First Baptist Church (1206 Bluegrass St, Flatwoods, KY 41139) with Pastor Jim Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Russell, KY.

Visitation will be from 11 A.M. until the time of the service on Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mr. Meek’s honor to Flatwoods First Baptist Church.
