Forest Glen Hardesty, 93, of Flatwoods, KY, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Trinity Station Retirement Community in Flatwoods, KY.Mr. Hardesty was born in Crown City, OH to the late Jesse Benjamin “Ben” and Sara Elizabeth “Sadie” Nance Hardesty.Mr. Hardesty joined the U.S. Navy on August 28, 1943, during WWII. He was on the first ship that landed in Normandy. He then went to work at the Huntington VA as an aide and then went on to trade school at Huntington East High School at night and studied printing. He then went to work for Standard Printing and Publishing Company in Huntington, WV operating a printing press until they closed.He began writing his wife, the niece of Alva Roush (a navel friend), after seeing her picture laid out on Roush’s bunk. Approximately two years later, he was in Gallipolis, OH when he saw a young lady wearing a red coat walking down the street. Forest loved red, "no matter what color it was." When he engaged in conversation with her he realized that she was the beautiful young lady he had been writing to. As fate would have it, they were married on November 13, 1946.When asked if he could relive any portion of his life, Mr. Hardesty replied that he would love to be 21, so that he could marry Romayne again.Mr. Hardesty was also a car salesman for Superior in Ashland, KY and a member of the South Point Masonic Lodge #0497. He was awarded the 50 Year Award from the Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio on October 17, 2016.Mr. Hardesy is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Florence Romayne Roush Hardesty of Ashland, KY; one daughter, Carol (David) Mandt of Garland, TX; two grandsons, David (Amy) Mandt Jr. of Dallas, TX and Kevin (Dawn) Mandt of Austin, TX; two great-grandchildren, Kaylen and Gavin; two nephews, Raymond Lee Hardesty of Jacksonville, FL and Paul Hardesty of Grove City, OH; and a host of extended family and friends. Funeral Service will be held at 2 P.M. on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, KY with J.R. Gullett officiating. Burial will follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery in Cheshire, OH.Visitation will be from 1 P.M. until time of service on Sunday at the funeral home.Condolences can be expressed at baileyfamilyfuneralhome.com
