George Patrick Akers

George Patrick Akers, 80, of Flatwoods, KY, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Mr. Akers was born on October 6, 1945, in Ironton, OH, to the late Charles Preston and Mary Josephine Norris Akers.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a sister, Cecilia Irving.

Mr. Akers was a Welder at AK Steel and a member of the Steel Workers Union #1865. He was a 1964 graduate of Holy Family Catholic Church in Ashland, KY, and a United States Marine Corps veteran during the Vietnam era. He was a Commandant for the Marine Corps League and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

George is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Glenna Jo Akers of Flatwoods, KY; two sons, John Patrick Akers (fiancée, Johnnie Harris and her daughters, Cristin Pennington and Ellie Preston) of Flatwoods, KY and George Patrick (Sarah) Akers Jr. of Creedmoor, NC; four grandchildren: Ian, Allison, Anne Marie, and Miles; three brothers, Charles Akers of Durbin, KY, John (Debbie) Akers of Westwood, KY, and Tom (Kathy) Akers of Winchester, KY; two sisters, Mary Fuggitt of Flatwoods, KY, Teresa (Larry) Cantrell of Westwood, KY; and a host of extended family and friends.

There are no services scheduled at this time.

The family has entrusted Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, KY, with the arrangements.
