Laverne Kay Salyers

Laverne Kay Harris Salyers, 78, of Argillite, KY, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at The Jordan Center in Louisa, KY.

Laverne was born on July 29, 1948, in Ashland, KY, to the late James K. Harris and Wanda L. Caudill Harris.

In addition to her parents, Laverne was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty years, Hurshell R. Salyers Jr., and her son, Steven A. Salyers.

Laverne was a homemaker who enjoyed baking and cooking for family and friends. She loved decorating her home and making it feel cozy and inviting. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved music and dancing. She always had a beautiful smile and was known for her elegant penmanship. She loved her fur-babies Hank and Delilah and enjoyed watching old movies like westerns and Shirley Timple. She was a devoted Christian who attended Faith Church of God in Raceland, KY, and her prayer was that her family would know God’s Word and seek salvation.

Laverne is survived by her two daughters, Christina Dawn (Michael) Ray of Raceland, KY, and Heather Leigh (Brian) LeMaster of Flatwoods, KY; two granddaughters, Amber Dawn (David) Brown of North Carolina and Ashley Shantel Wells of Bismark, ND; her sister, Betty L. (Mike) Blevins of Greenup, KY; and a host of extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be at 1 P.M. on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, KY, with Pastor Bobby Castle officiating. Burial will follow at Old Field Cemetery in Greenup, KY.

Visitation will be held one hour before the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
