Russell "Russ" Leo Kirk

Russell “Russ” Leo Kirk, 92, of Raceland, KY, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY.

Russ was born on May 19, 1934, in Flatwoods, KY, to the late Jessie Tom Kirk and Ollie May Dehart Kirk.

In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by his loving wife, Yvonne “Bonnie” Fields Kirk, two sisters, Edna Maxine Oliver and Virginia Marie Perkins, and a son-in-law, Dan Leonard Plowman.

Mr. Kirk was a boilermaker for CSX Railroad and a member of Local #249. He was a self-employed mechanic and worked for Lynd’s Wholesale and Grocery. Russ was an active member of the Pentecostal Church of Christ in Flatwoods, KY. He was involved in the Anchor Class and the Men’s Prayer Group Ministry. He loved fishing and enjoyed his trips to Florida for crappie and walleye in Michigan.

Russ is survived by his son, Ronald Leo (Amy) Kirk of Creedmoor, NC; his daughter, Bonita Faye Kirk Plowman of Flatwoods, KY; sister, Shirlene Porter Moore of Flatwoods, KY; a special friend, Glenna Barnhart of Cannonsburg, KY; and a host of extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. on Monday, September 21, 2026, at the Pentecostal Church of Christ (2100 Argillite Rd, Flatwoods, KY 41139), with Pastor Shane Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Russell, KY.

Visitation will be from 11 A.M. until the service on Monday at the church.
