Zella Mae Johnson Porter, 88, of Ashland, KY, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.
Zella was born, on January 19, 1936, in Long Fork, KY, to the late Orville “O.T.” Tarley Johnson and Belvia Hall Johnson.
In addition to her parents, Zella was preceded in death by her loving husband, Francis Marion Porter Jr.; a daughter, Brenda Moore; a brother, Norville Tarlus Johnson; two sisters, Helen Johnson and Margaret Fleming; three grandchildren, Phillip Fields, William Oliver Hall, and Trina Smith; and one great-grandchild, Elisha Smith.
Zella was a waitress at Bluegrass Grill and employed at Pennco in Ashland, KY. She was also a caregiver for many years. She loved the Lord and was of the Pentecostal faith.
Zella is survived by three daughters, Ruth Fields of Ashland, KY, Joyce (Mark) Dishman and Donna (Jeff) Smith both of Greenup, KY; eight grandchildren: Benjamin Fields, David (Jennifer) Fields, Kevin (Cassie) Fields, John (Julia) Hall, Jennifer Smith, Joshua (Rosalee) Smith, Valerie Lewis, and Tabitha Smith; four brothers, Clayton (Sue) Johnson of Ashland, KY, Charles (Phyllis) Johnson of Ashland, KY, Rabon Johnson of Detroit, MI, and Sid Johnson of Flatwoods, KY; a sister, Fern (Hurl) Burk of Virgie, KY; and a host of extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at the Pentecostal Holiness Tabernacle (906 McCowan St, Flatwoods, KY 41139) with Rev. J.E. Smith and Rev. Lloyd L. Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Rosehill Burial Park in Ashland, KY.
Visitation will be from 6 P.M. – 8 P.M. on Monday, November 4, 2024, and one hour before the service on Tuesday at the church.
The family has entrusted Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, KY with the arrangements.
